Read more...This became rather more formalised when a large contingent of Norwegian Christians spent a weekend on the island in June 2019. They came with a conviction of the need to acknowledge the ‘sins of their fathers’ and on June 8th, the anniversary of the Viking invasion of Holy Island in 793AD, they staged a formal ceremony of confession and prayer at the old harbour wall, during which sword and axe were laid down and a silver and gold menorah presented to the island in symbolic recompense for what was plundered, materially and spiritually. Speaking for a few minutes at one of the gatherings was Roy Godwin of the Ffald y Brenin retreat centre in South Wales. One of our guests recommended his book ‘The Grace Outpouring’ which tells the story of God working at the Centre and beyond through prayer. Tracey felt very strongly that we needed to visit. We read the book, listened to some teaching on developing a house of prayer and began to structure our day along those lines. In August we managed an 850-mile round-trip over a weekend and it proved a significant visit for Tracey in particular. At the same time we outlined our prayer focus and placed a prayer-tree in the dining room at Bamburgh View, and invited guests to contribute their prayer requests. It was very interesting that during this time there was a noticeable increase both in the warmth of appreciation shown by our guests and the sense of welcome they experienced during their stay. And at one point, for a few consecutive days, people were being attracted to our doorstep - and walking in - looking for café facilities - but that’s another story! We also wanted to extend our website to encourage similar prayer request and testimony, as well as to provide a space for sharing something of our experience, journey and vision.

Midday OfficeIn the name of the Father And of the Son And of the Holy Spirit. Who are you who gather around this table prepared for us in the presence of our enemies? We are those who By the grace of God Band together in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, By the grace of God Breathe together as conspirators of the Kingdom, By the grace of God Taste together the powers of the age to come, By the grace of God Celebrate together the way of freedom, By the grace of God Embrace together horizons of hope, By the grace of God Journey together at the edge of time, By the grace of God Commit together to a life of holy recklessness. Our Father who is in heaven Hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread And forgive us our trespasses As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation But deliver us from evil. Reading & Prayers Let us build a house where love is found In water, wine and wheat; A banquet hall on holy ground Where peace and justice meet. Here the love of God through Jesus, Is revealed in time and space As we share in christ the feast that frees us All are welcome, all are welcome, All are welcome in this place. May the favour of the Lord our God rest upon us; Establish the work of our hands for us Yes, establish the work of our hands. Now to Him who is able to keep you from falling And to present you before his glorious presence Without fault and with great joy - To the only God our Saviour Be glory, majesty, power and authority Through Jesus Christ our Lord Before all ages, now and forever more. In the name of the Father And of the Son And of the Holy Spirit. Amen

Evening OfficeIn the name of the Father And of the Son And of the Holy Spirit. Lord, the tide is closing; our day’s work is nearly done. Jesus himself came up and walked along with them. Lord, stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over. Then their eyes were opened and they recognised him. Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road? Lord, the tide is closing; our day’s work is nearly done. Lord, you have walked with us and worked with us. Lord, stay with us, for it is nearly evening. Lord, open our eyes that we might truly know you. Lord, let our hearts be on fire in your presence. Lord, let our hearts burn within us As you open the Scriptures to us. Reading & Prayers May my prayer be set before you like incense; May the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice. Lord of all gentleness, Lord of all calm Whose voice is contentment, whose presence is balm, Be there at our sleeping and give us, we pray, Your peace in our hearts, Lord, at the end of the day. Calm me, O Lord, as you stilled the storm Still me, O Lord, keep me from harm. Let all the tumult within me cease, Enfold me, Lord, in your peace. May the Lord bless you and keep you May the Lord make his face shine upon you And be gracious to you May the Lord turn his face toward you And give you peace. In the name of the Father And of the Son And of the Holy Spirit. Amen

Morning OfficeIn the name of the Father And of the Son And of the Holy Spirit. We stand in the first light of the day of the Lord. How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, This is the gate of heaven. My house will be called a house of prayer. One thing I have asked of the Lord And this is what I seek That I may dwell in the house of the Lord All the days of my life To behold the beauty of the Lord And to seek him in his temple. How lovely is your dwelling-place, O Lord Almighty! My soul yearns, even faints for the courts of the Lord. Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God Than dwell in the tents of the wicked. I love the house where you live, O Lord, The place where your glory dwells. Lord, where else would we be? Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ, King of endless glory. Reading & Prayers Lord, be in this house and in our waking. Lord, be in this house and in our working. Lord, be in this house and in our welcoming. This day and every day. May we know your presence in our worship, May we know your power in our witness, May we know your peace in our words. This day and every day. Lord, be in the face of all we meet Lord, be in the heart of all we love Lord, be in the life of all we bless. This day and every day. May the peace of the Lord Christ go with you Wherever He may send you, May He guide you through the wilderness, Protect you through the storm, May He bring you home rejoicing At the wonders He has shown you, May He bring you home rejoicing Once again into our doors. In the name of the Father And of the Son And of the Holy Spirit. Amen
