Our favourite beer on Holy Island is ‘Secret Kingdom’. It’s a bitter from the Hadrian Border brewery. “Dark, rich and full-bodied slightly roasted with a malty palate ending with a pleasant bitterness.”
After a while it disappeared suddenly from one of our locals. Then recently it re-appeared at the other. Again, it went. Then once more reappeared and is on tap as I write.
There is something elusive, invisible and unpredictable about the kingdom of God and yet there’s no doubt it’s here:
‘You won’t be able to say ‘Here it is!’ or ‘It’s over there!’ For the kingdom of God is already among you.’ - Jesus
(Luke 17:21 NLT)
Similarly, our house of prayer pages on this website are ‘hidden’ which in a way reflects how things are. We are present on the island in our guest house and yet at the same time there is ‘a secret presence’ of something quite extraordinary. Those who visit us might not be able to put their finger on it but our constant prayer is that they know it’s here - at Bamburgh View and in the ‘visible pages’ of our beautiful new website.
